history
Icon's trendsetting music agenda and ambitious bookings policy have established the Berlin club's reputation well beyond the borders of the German capital. It all began 15 years ago in an old disused brewery. A lot of rebuilding work later, Icon was a mainstay of the city's underground music scene with a mix of regular club nights, one-off events and concerts.
As well as residencies by a stable of local "spinmasters," Icon regularly hosted top international DJs like Mr. Scruff, Bloody Beetroots, Grooverider or Nightmares on Wax. The club was also a venue for label nights with established names like London's Ninja Tune or France's Ed Banger.
There were also regular events in co-operation with partners such as Bread & Butter, the progressive clothing scene's annual fashion and trade extravaganza, or the music and entertainment trade fair Popkomm.
With the weekly partynight "RECYCLE - Berlin's finest Drum'n'Bass" Icon established a drum'n'bass event, which seems to be unique Europe-wide. Every Saturday, 15 years long, international artists met local djs. In 2008 Icon is voted as Germany's best Drum'n'Bass location at Future-Music.net! But of course: It has been best for all kinds of clubmusic…
In Berlin's fast-changing club scene, Icon was firmly established as a venue for new sound experiences. It always has been an insider tip for cutting-edge clubbers who want to party beyond the mainstream.
